Lunar Grey owned by Ozbird
Of all the colours produced for the UK's Mk 2 V6's, Lunar Grey is indeed a funny one. It wasn't very popular at launch, making very few sales. Since then it has managed to amuse Vee fans though, getting plenty of jabs. Usually about undercoat! Fair enough really, I mean why have the wild looks of a Clio V6 in drab grey? But then Lunar is not just grey.
In April 2004 Renault UK introduced 2 options for the Mk 2 Clio V6, leather trim and i.d. paint. The leather trim came in 3 levels depending on your budget, and the paint came in several new iridescent colours, one of which was Lunar Grey.
In May 2004, Renault UK used Lunar Grey for their Clio V6 stand at the Birmingham Motor Show. 2 Lunars were specked for this, with both getting full leather trim in blue.
Unfortunately, it didn't go down too well and only 2 more Lunars were ever made for the UK (the 2 featured here) with neither of them getting the full leather trim option. Renault UK discontinued both options in October 2004.
The 2 display Lunars were eventually sold on by main dealers in Shirley and Newbury.
5 years on and fortunately, all 4 of the Lunar Vees are still running and present here at V6Clio.net. They carry the id plate numbers 187, 192, 260 and 319, with 187 and 260 being the motor show models. Of the other two 192 did get a "visual and touch" leather pack in beige and 319 kept the standard alcantara trim. 319 got contrasting silver pods, with the other 3 having grey.
So what is it with Lunar Grey paint? Well yes, it's grey and is low key, but it does subtly change colour with the light. This gives the V6 different looks as it changes from a stealthy steel-blue grey, to a sparkling silvery pink metallic. Just occasionally it glows lilac.
The only way to really appreciate Lunar Grey is to live with it!
No. 192 owned by ozbird.
First registered in July 2004, I bought No. 192 in December '08. I'm the 4th owner, and coincidently this is my 4th Vee. Sadly, I've given this one a name (and gender) and called her the Loony.
Loony has done 45,000 miles to date and is used as a daily drive. Like a lot of the Mk 2 Vees, 2009 was a big year for her with first cambelt change due. This was done by Scott at SG Motorsport who also did some other precautionary jobs including new water pump, clutch and brakes. She's stock standard apart from the wheels which have been polished.
I love owning and driving the Loony. She's getting on a bit now but feels fantastic to drive. Hope I can hang on to her for a while.
